Rarotonga, Cook Islands

Rarotonga, located just inside the Tropic of Capricorn, is the vibrant capital of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. The central mass of this island, often referred to as the jewel of the Pacific, is the eroded remains of a volcanic pyramid whose crags now form jungle-covered peaks and ridges ideal for hiking and caving. The sparkling lagoon is another focal point of interest for visitors to Rarotonga and also offers a variety of activities, including snorkeling and swimming. In addition to its ecological beauty, Rarotonga offers plenty of excitement for those seeking dancing, music, and traditional Polynesian cuisine. Cabarets, discos and restaurants flourish on the island and are the reason islanders are reputed to be the best dancers in Polynesia.
